CAP’s signature event, the dinner to Celebrate the Future, has come and gone. From all the feedback we received, it was a resounding success. Mayor Swearengin was inspirational in her speech and charismatic as always as she moved through the crowd, talking directly with some of the attendees. The other speakers told the group about their involvement with CAP over the years, and the success stories were highlights of the evening. Between ticket sales, sponsorships, and donations, we were able to fund most of the event’s cost. We’ve already started planning for next year’s event, so watch for ongoing updates!
Planning for the new detoxification and stabilization unit is well under way. A contract with the county will go to the Board of Supervisors on June 7; we don’t anticipate any delays in its approval. The board meeting is open to all who would like to be there to show support for the project. Pending approval by the board and completion of some remodeling, the anticipated start date is July 11.
The nation’s downward-sliding economy is affecting CAP as it affects everyone else. In the coming months we must anticipate significant decreases in the numbers of clients we serve, primarily due to state budget cuts. Now more than ever, we must look to CAP supporters for volunteers, donations, and sponsorships for projects such the detox services. With your support, we can continue our commitment to providing treatment for those least able to afford the cost of care. |
